Update: Due to my university teaching timetable changing, unfortunately the Wordpress workshops have been postponed. I'll update this post as and when new times are available.

A quick promotional post for two upcoming workshops that I am running at the University of Sussex. Book fast, places going already! All workshops can be booked online and are free of charge to Sussex students.

Protecting Your Assets

31st Jan: 10.30-12.30

Nobody really wants to think about backup until it's too late. Don't fall into this trap! In this session we will explore automated backup techniques that demonstrably work. The technologies we will cover will range from Dropbox, to Crashplan to (for advanced users) Unison. This will be a hands-on tech session and participants are encouraged to bring their own devices so as to leave with a fully-working backup system in place. Please ensure, before arriving with your own device, that you are able to access the university wifi as troubleshooting this aspect takes far too much time in a workshop environment.

Step-by-step website building with WordPress

7th Feb: 3.15-5.15
and
6th March: 3.15-5.15

Following on from previous workshops on academic web presence, this session will offer detailed tuition on creating a website for your academic projects using Wordpress. Beginning with domain registration, we will move through to host selection, installation of Wordpress, theming and day-to-day usage and maintenance. The session is designed for beginners but will assume a basic level of technical knowledge. The presentation will be available to participants after the event. Please note that the activities described in this workshop have associated costs, which will be discussed during the session.
